ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE AP SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS
All summer assignments MUST be typed, single or double spaced, font size no greater than 10, and are due the first day of school. If possible, please use front & back of pages to minimize paper usage.
1. Silent Spring by Rachel Carson
In a 3-5 page paper, describe 10 specific examples in history where applied entomology (pest & plant control) have had disastrous effects. Each example should be a DIFFERENT chemical and should be discussed, not just listed, in a paragraph for each example. In addition, discuss 3 examples (1 paragraph each) where alternative, positive solutions have been used as well. Finally, I would like your opinion of the book & a rating on the following scale:

2. Environmental Video/Program Summaries
Summarize 2 movies or 4 hours of environmental programs. Each summary should be no more than one page typed. If you choose to view programs, you will need to include the date of the airing, the title of the program, and the station network (eg. WCET channel 48). Stations with acceptable programs are usually found on the Learning, Discovery, Discovery Health & Science channels, as well as any PBS station. I have provided a list on acceptable videos below. Any other movie not on the list must be approved by me prior to the end of THIS school year.
Once again, all assignments are due on the first day of school & WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED LATE. Please stick to the guidelines & limits provided. Since no work will be accepted if it isn’t typewritten, be sure to plan ahead! Anyone wishing to begin work this year instead of the next may check out some of the videos from me in room 273. If there are any questions regarding the assignments, please speak to me BEFORE this school year is over.
